Each of SMUD’s hydroelectric powerplants has a cooling water system and a service water system. Many of these systems are not performing to their design specifications. The purpose of this contract is for the assessment, testing, and reporting of each of these systems at each powerhouse. The contractor will be expected to assess and recommend resolutions at a minimum for the following: • Film/bacterial growth within generator air enclosure coolers including materials, methods, and treatments to abate or prevent. • Loss of cross-sectional area in piping and air-cooled heat exchangers due to corrosion build-up. • Loss of pipe wall integrity in piping due to corrosion. • Microbiological induced corrosion. • Heat exchanger and pipe materials; coating failures inappropriate coatings, improper materials • System hydraulic and heat transfer characteristics where necessary • Environmental hazards such as lead coated or asbestos insulated equipment. • Pipe wall thicknesses (identify and map). • Corrosion factors.
