Individually or as a member of a crew, performs a variety of routine cleaning tasks at light rail
stations, bus stops, and light rail vehicles, in or around District buildings and grounds, as
assigned; performs office relocations and room set-ups; hauls and transports materials safely
operating non-revenue District vehicles; practices safe work processes and contributes to the
creation and maintenance of a safe working environment for self and others; and performs related
work as assigned.
Employees in this classification are expected to work a variety of shift hours, including early
mornings, late nights, weekends and/or holidays. The scheduling information may change based on the staffing needs of the department and the District.
Examples of Duties
Rotates between work assignments, as directed; at bus and light rail stations: removes trash and
debris from facilities and grounds, empties trash receptacles, sweeps stations and parking lots,
pulls weeds from planters, removes graffiti, and pressure washes and steam cleans stations weekly;
cleans and picks up trash and debris at bus stops; performs routine janitorial cleaning at assigned
District facilities; loads trucks with furniture and office equipment; packs and pads fragile
furniture and equipment; moves furniture and equipment between District locations safely operating District vehicles; assists higher level Facilities and Grounds Workers with a variety of tasks; sets up common rooms for meetings and/or events per requirements and returns rooms to regular configuration once events have ended; and performs other related duties as assigned.
If Assigned to Light Rail:
Sweeps, mops, steams, scrapes and washes the interior and exterior of LRVs; may remove seat
cushions; safely operates a variety of cleaning equipment, including ground scrubber/sweeper and
upholstery cleaning equipment; places and replaces fliers and advertisements in LRV’s; pulls
defect card; sweeps and mops garage floors, pits, District parking lots, LRV storage areas and
service areas, light rail stations, and other District owned/maintained properties; lifts, moves
and dumps trash containers; cleans maintenance office and bathrooms; and performs other duties as assigned. Safely operates District owned equipment and non-revenue vehicles. Work may be
performed at the Light Rail facility or when the LRV is in service on the main line or parked in
remote storage areas. Incumbent may be required to change work locations throughout the shift
using Light Rail, Bus service or District vehicle.
Minimum Qualifications
Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience: Six months of work related experience performing custodial, industrial cleaning and/or
grounds maintenance duties.
Special Requirements, Licenses and/or Certifications: Must possess a valid Driver’s license at time
of application and have the ability to obtain and maintain a California Class C Driver’s license.
Must have a satisfactory driving record.
