This posting intends to fill a one year limited term position.
SMUD is seeking a highly engaged individual to join our transmission and distribution maintenance engineering team that supports our Zero Carbon Plan. This individual will perform a variety of professional office and field engineering tasks associated with electrical engineering support. The successful candidate will work under the direction of experienced engineers.
Under supervision, performs a variety of sub-professional office and field engineering tasks associated with electrical engineering support, including but not limited to; creating and modifying 2D and 3D CAD drawings, standard updates, equipment and material inspection, testing and related assignments and projects.
This is the entry level within the Engineering Technician series. This series is comprised of two levels: “Level E” is the entry level where incumbents acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the tasks associated with the classification. The incumbent is progressed/promoted to the journey “level J” upon demonstrating the required skills and knowledge to independently perform the job. Incumbents must progress/promote to the “J level” within 60 months of appointment to the classification series.
- Develops, maintains, documents and manages standards, specifications, and associated archives under the general guidance of technical leads; uses of Word, Excel, Adobe Acrobat, SAP and other pertinent software.
- Develop construction assembly drawings using AutoCAD 2D and 3D and other advanced features.
- Assists in the development, maintenance and revision of engineering standards and manages communications tools as needed.
- Performs receipt inspection of materials and equipment to ensure conformance with specifications and standards, and to establish suitability for installation. Records findings and generates reports to document non-compliant materials and equipment.
- Supports maintenance of the Design and Standards Web Page; works directly with IT support personnel as needed to maintain format, functionality, data links and current information for use by Department and SMUD personnel.
- Other related duties as assigned
Equivalent to completion of sufficient formal and/or informal education and relevant work experience to provide the necessary knowledge and skills.
Must possess and maintain a valid California Drivers License and a satisfactory driving record not more than two moving violations in the last two years.
Read and interpret maps and construction drawings; perform routine technical and administrative work; understand and follow complex or brief oral and written instructions; communicate effectively and clearly in English in person and by telephone with other staff; work in a safe and effective manner; meet and deal tactfully with vendors, contractors, other employees; follow safety procedures; learn SMUD Distribution standards, application and format; learn and use software programs and platforms such as SAP, GIS, MS Excel, MS Word, Adobe Acrobat.
- Strong SAP and Database skills.
- Proficiency in Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
- Power BI Experience.
